Welcome to Soggy (not Sunny) Sequim

More water than anyone can remember — at least recently — covered sidewalks in Sequim, which is known more for its sunshine and relative lack of rainfall.

Not so today as wet and windy weather continues to pound the North Olympic Peninsula and all of Western Washington.

Here's the National Weather Service's latest advisory for the Peninsula:

* AT 1153 AM PST...PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN CONTINUED ACROSS THE AREA.
IN THE SIX HOUR PERIOD ENDING AT 11 AM PST...A HALF TO 1.5 INCHES
OF RAIN HAS FALLEN ACROSS THE AREA. THIS AMOUNT OF RAIN HAS LED
TO PONDING OF WATER ON NUMEROUS ROADS...LOW LYING AREAS...AND
SOME HIGHWAY UNDERPASSES. AN ADDITIONAL HALF TO 1.2 INCHES
OF RAIN IS EXPECTED BY 7 PM PST THIS EVENING. THIS COULD CAUSE
SOME SMALLER STREAMS TO OVERFLOW THEIR BANKS AS WELL AS TRIGGER
LANDSLIDES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE
WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY.

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED OR PONDING
OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.

* MAIN IMPACT...THE ROAD TO HURRICANE RIDGE WILL LIKELY BE CLOSED
