The Safeway truck was traveling north on Highway 19 when it lost control and flipped, blocking the highway.
The driver, who was not injured, extracted himself according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman Bill Beezley.
Hazardous-materials teams from Naval Magazine Indian Island were on site to check for any leaks.
Traffic, which was being routed along Egg and I Road, was not expected to be allowed back on the highway before dusk at the earliest, according to the State Patrol.
