The man entered Hair Smith at 1218 S. C Street, demanded money from an employee and grabbed a box containing cash, according to the Port Angeles Police Department in a statement released noon Wednesday.
He ran away on foot at the 12th and C Street intersection near a cluster of stores in west Port Angeles, Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said Wednesday.
The wig was recovered a short distance from the business.
The man was described as a white male in his late teens to early 20s who is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 160 pounds.
“Right now, we don’t have any photos of the guy available,” Smith said.
Detective Kevin Spencer would not say if the man was armed, citing the unfinished investigation.
Need accurate sketch
The department is working on a sketch of the suspect from descriptions provided by “multiple potential witnesses” and also trying to draw information from surveillance cameras, Smith said.
The sketch will be made public when the department is confident it is accurate, he added.
“It’s pretty notable to have someone wearing a pink wig running away.”
“If anyone was aware of that at that time and they haven’t talked to police, we would be really excited to talk to them,” Smith continued.
“We’ll look for possible similar crimes in other jurisdictions or unsolved stuff here.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to phone Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or Spencer at 360-417-4946.
