WEEKEND: Dogs welcome at Port Townsend Short Tails

Peninsula Daily News

PORT TOWNSEND — PT Short Tails, a dog-friendly event, is set for 7 p.m. Saturday.

The performance will be at Pope Marine Building, 603 Water St.

Suggested donation is $10 per person, with dogs attending for free.

The fundraiser for Olympic Mountain Pet Pals welcomes well-behaved dogs and their people for the 90-minute program, which includes a break for refreshments, including dog cookies.

'Laughter-filled'

“As always, the evening is all about pets,” said Pet Pals President Pam Kolacy.

“In addition to the dog-themed scripts, we'll have songs and poems for cat people.

“It's always a fun, moving and laughter-filled event for everyone, whether or not they have a dog to bring with them.”

Actors have chosen a lineup of traditional (Mark Twain) and contemporary (Pam Houston, this year's library community read author) readings, with musical interludes to enhance the program.

Performers include Catherine McNabb, Sue Gillard, Deborah Hammond and Mike James.

Kolacy emphasized that dogs must be well-mannered when meeting other dogs and should be comfortable sitting quietly on leashes in a fairly confined area.

Olympic Mountain Pet Pals provides funds for the spay/neuter of pets in low-income families and for humane management of community cats.

The group also funds emergency medical care for pets through local veterinarians when families can't afford it.
