UPDATE — Port Townsend girl held for making Facebook threat

By Peninsula Daily News staff

CORRECTION — A correction has been made in this story since it was posted. Port Townsend police corrected a notice about a girl accused of a Facebook threat. "The girl that was arrested was not being bullied," the correction said. "Her comment about bringing a shotgun to school was apparently in response to other PTHS Confessions posts making fun of another girl (a third party). The appropriate thing for her to do would have been to bring up her concerns about her friend to school officials or the School Resource Officer."

Here is the original story:

PORT TOWNSEND — Police say a 14-year-old Port Townsend girl accused of making a Facebook threat to shoot a fellow student has been arrested.

Police said the girl was arrested Tuesday for investigation of felony harassment.

The comment posted Sunday night on a Facebook page called PTHS Confessions indicated the girl planned to bring a shotgun to Port Townsend High School to confront another student in response to other Facebook posts making fun of another girl, according to police.

Port Townsend police said the girl was taken to a juvenile detention center pending a court appearance. Police said she acknowledged making the comment — but told them it was a joke.

Officers said there was no indication she actually planned to carry out the threat.

School officials said all threats are taken seriously.
