PORT ANGELES — An unoccupied recreational vehicle was destroyed in a fire that spewed a huge column of black smoke on South Valley Street on Sunday afternoon, the Port Angeles Fire Department said.
No one was hurt, firefighters said.
The cause was not determined.
The fire was reported a little after 4 p.m. Sunday, the department said in a press release.
When firefighters arrived at the fire on South Valley Street near the 800 block, they found a single RV/motorhome fully involved in flames with a large black smoke column that reached the Eighth Street Bridge, they said.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and declared the RV a complete loss.
“No one was around to claim the RV, and there were no first-hand witnesses to the start of the fire,” the department said.
It was unknown if anyone was living in it, although it was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Firefighters could not provide an estimate of the loss because of the condition of the RV, they said.
