Health care merger for nonprofits

Seattle-based Virginia Mason and Tacoma-based Catholic Health Initiative Franciscan completed a merger during January.

The nonprofit health care organizations now form Virginia Mason Franciscan Health under the umbrella of their parent company, CommonSpirit Health.

According to a press release, the merger integrates care at 11 hospitals with more than 1,500 inpatient beds and more than 300 outpatient care sites across western Washington.

The new, combined organization employs more than 18,000 staff members.
