Jefferson Healthcare’s facilities department has earned Energy Star certification with a score in the 97th percentile.
The certification comes from a six-year program to replace inefficient equipment, such as air handlers, with more energy efficient units.
In addition to large units, the facilities staff is also in the process of replacing less efficient lighting fixtures with LED units.
So far, in addition to reducing the hospital’s carbon footprint, the changes have reduce utility costs by 7 percent over the past two years.
