PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare recently earned high scores for nurse communication from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.
The scores are compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services based on patient surveys following inpatient stays, including acute care, intensive care and family birth units.
The communication score reflects responses to three survey questions:
• During this hospital stay, how often did nurses explain things in a way that you could understand?
• During this hospital stay, how often did nurses listen carefully to you?
• During this hospital stay, how often did nurses treat you with courtesy and respect?
The report indicated that 82 percent of Jefferson Heathcare’s patients responded that “nurses always communicated well.”
