Man brandishes gun at shipyard

PORT ANGELES — An unidentified man has been taken into custody after he allegedly returned to a shipyard from which he had been terminated brandishing a gun and seeking revenge, Port Angeles police said.

An employee talked with him and calmed him down, said Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada of the Port Angeles Police Department.

The employee, who was not identified, managed to get the man to surrender his weapon, which was locked away. After more discussion, he drove away.

The incident happened Monday afternoon, but police were not called until Tuesday morning, Viada said.

During the initial investigation, officers learned the man was prohibited from possessing firearms because of an earlier felony conviction.

Officers found the man at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and were working with the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s office to determine charges, Viada said. As of late afternoon Tuesday, the man had not been booked into the Clallam County jail.
