Port Angeles man charged after alleging entering home, hiding near child

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man has been charged with residential burglary and other crimes after he allegedly entered a home on West 10th Street and hid near a child last Sunday.

Shawn P. Deshazo, 46, was charged Wednesday with single counts of residential burglary, attempted residential burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and second-degree vehicle prowling for the alleged incident on the 1700 block of West 10th Street.

Deshazo remained in the Clallam County jail on $50,000 bail Sunday.

The alleged victim told police that he woke up to find an unknown male inside his residence at about 8:53 a.m. Sept. 22.

“The victim told officers that the suspect had been crouched near the victim’s young child and appeared to be hiding,” police said.

“The victim told the suspect to leave. When the male did not respond, the victim physically removed the suspect and called police.”

A man later identified as Deshazo reportedly opened the door of a vehicle parked outside the residence before leaving the property, police said.

One hour later, police were called to a report of a man hiding under the deck of his neighbor’s house on the 1800 block of West 12th Street.

Another neighbor had observed the man trying to enter another home, officer Kyle Cooper wrote in the affidavit for probable cause.

A witness told police that Deshazo jumped a fence and fled towards West 11th Street, where he was arrested without further incident.

Deshazo told Cooper that his cousin, Ed, lived in the house that he had entered on West 10th Street.

“I asked what ‘Ed’s’ last name was, and Deshazo said he didn’t know,” Cooper wrote in the affidavit.

“Deshazo said a female told him to go inside, but he could not tell me who the female was, or what she looked like.”

Deshazo told Cooper that he was high on methamphetamine and had used within the last few hours, according to Cooper’s account.
