Soroptimists award scholarships to local students

PORT ANGELES — Soroptimist International of Port Angeles will award $1,000 academic scholarships to five local students.

The students were evaluated upon academics, leadership, school activities, community service, awards/honors and student employment.

The recipients are:

• Tia Berson, Crescent High School, plans to study criminology and psychology at Gonzaga University.

• Laken Folson, Lincoln High School, plans to study business management at the University of Washington.

• Leo Ahlburg, Port Angeles High School, plans to study aeronautical engineering at the University of Washington.

• Jake Jacobsen, Port Angeles High School, plans to study marine engineering.

• Taylor Martin, Port Angeles High School, plans to study pre-med at Western Washington University.
