SEQUIM — The next Sequim Accordion Social will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The social will be at Shipley Center at 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim.
A $2 to $3 admission donation will be requested at the door to help pay for the room.
Players of all levels are encouraged to bring their accordions and each play one to three pieces.
The intent of the social is to have a supportive and friendly atmosphere where players can play and everyone can enjoy some great music, organizers said.
The featured players will be the Bonnie Birch Trio from Seattle.
Many accordionists know Bonnie Birch from the Leavenworth International Accordion Celebration. She’s the head of the organizing committee, but also essentially the artistic director, motivator and mentor; the festival wouldn’t happen without her.
Birch began studying the accordion at age 7 and focused mainly on classical-style playing. She entered and won many competitions which resulted in a performance in Carnegie Hall. After a computer science career, she resumed accordion playing with a whole new approach.
Birch plays professionally for many types of events in the northwest, including restaurants and dances; French, German and Italian festivals, the Seattle Art Museum and other venues.
She has studied jazz with many prominent teachers and incorporates those elements in all her playing. She plays solo, has her own band and accompanies singers.
Birch will be joined by guitarist Nick Heiting and tuba player Paul Ostler, musicians she has worked with for over 15 years.
