Art Blast! kicks off new exhibit with artists, music

PORT ANGELES — Live music and art will entertain during the reception for the Port Angeles Library’s new Art in the Library exhibit tonight.

The quarterly Art Blast! will feature artists Jerry Owie, Clayton Murdach and Susan McDougall as well as the Seattle band Cosmos.

The opening reception for the exhibit will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the library at 2210 S. Peabody St., with artists present.

Music will begin at 7 p.m.

Refreshments will be served and limited library services will be available during this free after-hours event.

Owie’s paintings and drawings are inspired by nature as well as life’s day-to-day activities and struggles, organizers said, adding that Murdach creates three-dimensional art using everyday objects to form stories about society. McDougall works with soft pastels to represent natural forms and textures.

Cosmos perform “a multifaceted mixture of genres that will redefine your perception of Seattle’s sound through a blend of hip-hop, jazz, soul and electronic overtones,” band members said.

Cosmos has performed at such nationally renowned festivals as Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot and Sasquatch! Music Festival.

They initially garnered attention from winning EMP’s (now MoPOP) Battle of the Bands competition.

In 2017, they were one of nine bands in the nation selected to be a part of MUSICOLOGY — a battle of the bands hosted at Prince’s Paisley Park Estate in Chanhassen, Minn.

The band released its debut mixtape “Moonshine” in March.

The exhibit will be on display at the Port Angeles Library through Oct. 22.

Art Blast! is supported by the Port Angeles Friends of the Library.
