Artists to demonstrate techniques at Arts & Draughts

PORT ANGELES — Painters, sculptors, spinners and weavers will put the arts in Arts & Draughts this weekend.

Local and regional artisans will demonstrate their techniques in live showings from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as part of the fourth Port Angeles Arts & Draughts beer and wine festival.

The festival itself begins with a kickoff party at 7 p.m. today.

Tickets for tonight’s and Saturday’s events are $50 at the gate. The ticket includes five tokens for Saturday beer-tasting. Tickets to the beer garden are $10 tonight and $40 Saturday. A $5 coupon for the kickoff party is available on the Arts & Draughts festival Facebook page. Sunday’s events are free.

Demonstrations of fiber arts, including spinning, knitting, loom weaving and lap weaving, will take place outside the beer garden on North Laurel Street on Saturday afternoon, festival organizers said.

Harbor Art Gallery at 114 N. Laurel St. will have indoor or outdoor demonstrations — it depends on the weather — by members of the artist cooperative throughout the day Saturday, operator Bob Stokes said Wednesday.

“It’s worth doing,” Stokes said. “It’s a good show they’re putting on.”

Tammy Hall will be make driftwood sculptures, Terri Enck will create ceramic sculptures and Sheila Shanti will be doing fiber arts at the festival, Stokes said.

Meanwhile, festival organizers provided the following schedule for Sunday’s art demonstrations:

Noon — Tamera Allen: acrylic painting.

1 p.m. — Northwest Regional Spinners Association: spin art.

2 p.m. — Susan Cleaves: wire bracelets.

3 p.m. — Bonnie Clark: unicorn-themed acrylic painting.

In addition to the art demonstrations, the Arts & Draughts festival will have an all-ages street fair with food trucks from five North Olympic Peninsula eateries.

Live music will be played in the beer garden at the evening kickoff party today and throughout the day Saturday.

More than two dozen breweries and wineries will serve craft beer, wine, cider and hard kombucha at the tasting from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Sunday’s festivities will be alcohol-free.
