Artists to display works during Second Saturday Art Walk

PORT ANGELES — The Second Saturday Art Walk will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at participating Port Angeles businesses.

Galleries in the free monthly self-guided tour include:

Harbor Art Gallery, 114 N. Laurel St., will host a reception for Nathan Shields from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Shields, a Port Angeles printmaker, will be the featured artist at the gallery throughout October.

Shields will exhibit a series of nature scenes that he has been working on since the beginning of the year.

“I’m inspired by the outdoors and feel compelled to express my appreciation of nature through art,” Shields said.

Although Shields primarily works with multicolor linocut and woodcut prints, he will have drawings on display as well.

“I’ve always loved drawing,” he said.

Along with math and computer science, Shields teaches art at Crescent School in Joyce.

• Cabled Fiber and Yarn, 125 W. First St., will host felting artist Michelle Johnson from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Samples of Johnson’s works will be on display and for sale during the art walk.

Johnson first became interested in fiber art 30 years ago at the Kansas City Art Institute by the brief glimpses of color, texture and patterning she saw each day as she passed the fiber studio.

“The felting process allows me to experiment, play, transform and create beautifully textured wall pieces and sculptured textiles,” Johnson said.

For more information, call 360-504-2233 or email info@cabledfiber.com.

• Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., will host an opening reception for a new exhibit, “Body Horror,” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The reception will feature music, spooky movies, food and drink specials at the Loom Bar and a community craft project.

The exhibit will include works by Sarah Tucker, Christopher Allen and Richard Stephens.
