PORT TOWNSEND — The Salish Sea Early Music Festival will present the 5th Brandenburg Concerto by Johann Sebastian Bach and other works for flute, violin, harpsichord and string chamber orchestra at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Admission to the concert at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1020 Jefferson St., will be $15, $20 or $25 in a free-will offering. People 18 and younger will be admitted free.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s classic Brandenburg Concerto No.5 will feature Carrie Krause on the baroque violin, Jeffrey Cohan on the baroque flute, Jonathan Oddie on harpsichord, Courtney Kuroda on the baroque violin, Stephen Creswell on the baroque viola and Anna Marsh performing on the baroque bassoon along with the Salish Sea Music Festival Chamber Orchestra.
Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721 (though probably composed earlier).
They are widely regarded as some of the best orchestral compositions of the Baroque era.
Krause, baroque violinist, is concertmaster of the Bozeman Symphony in Montana and New Trinity Baroque in Portland, Ore.
