Ballroom dance meeting set tonight

Organizers gauging interest in forming club

PORT TOWNSEND — The Discovery Dance group, host of dances and lessons before the pandemic, is beginning to come out of hibernation tonight.

Members of the Discovery Dance board will be on hand at an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 209 Monroe St. The meeting is open to anyone interested in hearing about the possibility of a new dance club.

Michael Maddox, a dancer new to town, has shown interest in forming a local dance club in association with USA Dance, a nationwide organization.

“We always welcome new ideas for improving or expanding dancing in our area,” four Discovery Dance members wrote in an invitation to tonight’s meeting.

Those members — Janice Eklund, Vickie Townsend, Nancy Koch and Sally Kiely — added that the past two years have been tough on the dance community.

“We have just started discussing potential future dances again,” they noted, adding they want to check out a possible collaboration with USA Dance and Maddox, who will talk about his vision for dancing at the remodeled legion hall.

For those who are interested but can’t make it to the meeting, Maddox can be reached at gnafswo@gmail.com.
