Benefit set for Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue

Wings, Wine Art to feature rehabilitated birds

GARDINER — Wild Birds Unlimited will host a benefit for Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue that offers wine, hors d’oeurves and appearances by rescued wildlife.

Wings, Wine & Art will be at Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101 in Gardiner, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 15.

Admission will be a $20 donation at the door. All proceeds will go directly to Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue. ID will be required to take part of the wine pour.

The founder of Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue, Cindy Daily, will present two talks, one at 5 p.m. and another at 6 p.m.

Each will feature the rescue center’s educational ambassador birds. Owls, hawks and other native bird species will make appearances for visitors to photograph and ask questions about their rehabilitation.

Daily also will talk about the efforts of the rescue center. The center’s motto is “Save a Bird; Save the World.”

This event is sponsored by Camaraderie Cellars of Port Angeles, which will have representatives on site, pouring wine for those of age.

Hors d’oeurves will be provided by Hills and Valley Catering from Port Townsend.

Many local artists have donated art for a silent auction. In addition, there will be a dessert table full of delicacies to bid upon.

Wild Birds Unlimited will donate 10 percent of all sales in the shop during the event as well.

Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue has been working on the North Olympic Peninsula since 1994.

Volunteers with the rescue center will be on hand on Oct. 15.

The rescue center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies on public donations.

Donations can be dropped off any time to Wild Birds Unlimited in Gardiner.
