Block party, grange anniversary, pig roast on Peninsula this weekend

Block party

PORT HADLOCK — The public is invited to the 2017 Hadlock Block Party’s various events throughout the day Saturday.

Vendor booths will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hadlock Building Supply, 901 Ness’ Corner Road, and Kivley Center, 95 Oak Bay Road.

A parade will commence at 11 a.m., with a community photo following at noon in the center of the Hadlock intersection.

The Show & Shine will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Ferino’s Pizza, 846 Ness’ Corner Road, with a beer garden.

A keg toss will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Tailgate party

PORT HADLOCK — The Old Alcohol Plant will hold a tailgate party in tandem with the Hadlock Block Party from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Participants are asked to read the entirety of each book before the scheduled sessions, which occur the second Thursday of each month.

Boat tours

PORT TOWNSEND — The public is invited to take a tour on a Martha J-A 1984 24-foot motor launch from noon to 4 p.m. today.

Tours also will be offered from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Those interested are asked to meet on the floating dock in front of the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.

Tours are by donation and take about 30 minutes.

The service is on a first-come, first-served basis, with a six-person capacity.

Main has performed with the Seattle Symphony Chorale and Northwest Chamber Chorus.

The film focuses on the worldwide movement for economic localization, according to a news release.

CHIMACUM — The 14/48 Projects will offer a free performance of “Coyote Tails” at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The play is part of the projects’ tour of areas surrounding Seattle and will be held at H.J. Carroll Park, 9884 state Highway 19.

According to a news release: “The mischievous Coyote encounters many different animals along his path, and delights in misleading and deceiving them.”

The play was written by Zoey Cane Belyea with consulting-transactions from Pilar O’Connell and directed by Emily Purington.

QUILCENE — The Quilcene Community Center will host the KidsQuest Children’s Museum Science Fair at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

After creating, attendees can participate in live-action role-playing games and mock combat.

Zombie escape

SEQUIM — Teens in Sequim are invited to participate at 6 p.m. today in the North Olympic Library System’s “Escape Room Challenge: Zombie Apocalypse” at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

Attendees will “help save the world and escape the zombie apocalypse … working together with other players to find clues, solve critical thinking puzzles, and break codes in order to retrieve the zombie anti-virus,” according to a news release.

Flower arranging

SEQUIM — Master Gardener Cathy Wagner will lead a presentation on flower arranging at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“Flower Arranging with Cuttings from the Garden” will be at the Master Gardeners’ Woodcock Demonstration Garden at 2711 Woodcock Road. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Wagner will review how to choose containers and prepare these containers for long-lasting arrangements, as well as give advice on the best plants in your garden that will work as cut greens and flowers.

She will use cuttings from plants growing at the Woodcock Garden to demonstrate design principles and various styles of flower arranging.

Wagner has been trained as a floral designer and landscaper. She graduated from the Depatis Florist School in Detroit and has designed for numerous weddings and other events.

SEQUIM — The Faith Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will hold its annual rummage and bake sale today and Saturday.

Featured at the sale will be vintage items, tools, furniture, craft items, home decor, linens, Christmas items, clothing, children’s toys, books and baked goods.

Cultural exchange

SEQUIM — Ten Student Ambassadors looking to earn funds for a cultural exchange with Shiso, Japan — Sequim’s sister city — are hosting a car wash from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The car wash will be in the parking lot at J.C. Penney, 651 W. Washington St.

The event is an “Ultimate Car Wash,” organizers say, as youths are cleaning both interiors and exteriors of cars, and will host a bake sale, lemonade sale and a silent auction for car wash customers at the same time.

The ambassadors, chosen by the Sequim-Shiso Sister City Association, completed a service project at Carrie Blake Community Park on June 17, beautifying the garden at the city of Sequim’s Water Reuse Demonstration Site and the Friendship Garden off Blake Avenue.

Student ambassadors include Aleah Chen, Coral Disinski, Erik Holtrop, Braden Koch, Fiona Macpherson, David Melcer, Chloe Morton, Kaleb Needoba, Katherine Tucker and Oscar Walchenbach.

Elks bingo

SEQUIM — The Sequim Elks Lodge will host bingo games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and Thursday.

SEQUIM — The Sequim Library will host the KidsQuest Children’s Museum’s Northwest wildlife science fair at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Attendees can learn hands-on about local wildlife by exploring skulls, scat, tracks and real animal pelts while developing an awareness about Northwest wildlife and habitats.
