Celebration of Shadows festival set for Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival will return for its fourth year on Saturday.

The family-friendly festival will be at Webster’s Woods, adjacent to the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

While the main festival will kick off at 5 p.m., there will be several workshops during the day.

Tracy Beals will lead pumpkin-carving workshops at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

Admission to the workshops is $12 per person and includes a pumpkin, tools, instruction and entry into the pumpkin carving contest.

Space in the workshops is limited, so pre-registration is recommended at pafac.kindful.com/e/pumpkincarving2024.

The pumpkin contest is open to all. Carved pumpkins may be dropped off at the center between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday for $5 per entry.

Judges will select the winning pumpkins based on design, creativity and skill of execution, although anyone can support their favorite pumpkin for $1 per vote.

Winners of the contest will be announced at 7 p.m. on the main stage.

Sue Truman and Cil Pierce of The Crankie Factory will conduct Build a Crankie workshops at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.

Participants will design and take home their own fall-themed matchbox-size mini-crankie moving panorama.

Truman and Pierce will perform on the main stage at 7 p.m.

The workshops are $10 per person. Pre-registration is recommended at pafac.kindful.com/e/minicrankie.

Beginning at 5 p.m., staff from the Port Angeles Main Library will read spooky stories in the center’s courtyard.

The public also is welcome to view the artwork of “Sparks of Connection” on exhibit in the main gallery or stroll through the pumpkin walk to view entries in the pumpkin-carving contest.

From 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., attendees may view the crankies up close. Then, at 7:15 p.m., the Crankie Factory will use the storytelling art form of crankies on the main stage in the meadow.

They will share a story about Littlefoot, a juvenile Bigfoot, who would much rather step dance instead of fishing or foraging for berries.

Another story, Black Cat’s Jig, is about a cat who has a catnip-induced dream.

Participants are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and sweaters to stay comfortable during the show.

The evening’s events are free although a $5 donation to support programs at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center is appreciated.
