COYLE — Concerts in the Woods’ first Sunday concert of the season will feature a Celtic band called Cavort.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, at the end of the Toandos Peninsula.

Admission will be by donation.

Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

“The word ‘cavort’ is defined as ‘to leap or dance about in a lively manner,’ which is exactly what this music makes you want to do,” said series organizer Norm Johnson.

The organizer and lead singer of the group is Tami Curtis, who performed in Coyle in 2016 with a band called The Fire Inside.

Now she puts together shows with an ever-changing lineup of great Seattle-area musicians who are practicing the craft of Celtic music, Johnson said.

”I knew about her fluid roster of band mates so I ask her who would be coming to Coyle with her this time,” Johnson said.

She responded: “Yup, our Cavorters are quite modular to accommodate more gigs.

“Most of our players have day jobs and have varying availability for gigs, but we all met at a Wednesday session in Seattle at Shawn O’Donnell’s.

“I started Cavort in 2015 out of sheer admiration for the durability of Celtic folk songs to stand the test of time,” Curtis said.

“The songs I select, which can be at least 200 years old, typically resonate to a modern audience. Love, relationships, conflict and liquid refreshments are topics that hold up over centuries.”

Curtis will perform vocals and on the bodhran. Cameron St. Louis (Stahl) also will sing, as well as play the Irish flute, whistles and small pipes. Christine Traxler will perform on the fiddle and Tony Schuler on the guitar.
