Early bird passes available for Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts

PORT ANGELES — Early bird passes are available now for the 24th annual Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts, set May 26-29.

The festival will feature nearly 100 performances on four stages over four days. It also will include a street fair, children’s activities and workshops in yoga, tai chi and puppetry, as well as drumming circles.

Information on ticket prices, the festival schedule and videos of the artists are available online at jffa.org. Tickets can be purchased online or at Port Book and News in Port Angeles or Joyful Noise in Sequim.

“The Juan de Fuca Festival is perhaps the premiere music event on the Olympic Peninsula and, in its 24th year, has grown into one of the great music festivals in the Pacific Northwest,” Maguire said.

“Even so, the festival retains its small-town roots and community feeling.”

The Victoria Ballet and the Geoffrey Castle Band are two of the performances scheduled for the festival.

This will be the first time in 15 years the Celtic Rock fiddle player brings his full band to the festival. He will be accompanied by Irish step dancers.

Here are some of the other performers lined up for the festival:

• BC World Music Collective — A 13-member group that brings together musicians from Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Africa, London and First Nations.

• Jesse Roper — Guitarists.

• The Paperboys — A Juno winner and two-time nominee that has played its blend of Celtic and Latin music internationally for 24 years.

• Divinity Roxx — Before launching her solo career, this musician spent five years with bassist Victor Wooten and five years as bassist and musical director for Beyonce.

• Jeff Scroggins and Colorado — A bluegrass band is fronted by two-time national banjo champion Scroggins.

• Achilles Wheel — Winner of the 2016 Band of the Year in Northern California, the band “fuses an infectious blend of roots and world music rockadelia.”

• Dmitri Matheny — Introduced to listeners as the protege of jazz legend Art Farmer, Matheny has matured into “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

• Merideth Kaye Clark — This musician will perform Joni Mitchell’s iconic album, “Blue.”

• Ken Derouchie Band — The eight-piece soul/R&B/funk/blues band features a horn and rhythm section and four-part harmonies.

• Too Loose Cajun/Zydeco Band — This Cajun/zydeco dance band includes two fiddles, two guitars, accordion, piano and traditional Louisiana rub-board.

• Trio Voronezh — The group from the Russian city of Voronezh has traveled the world performing traditional Russian instruments.
