Ferry service disrupted; concert canceled

PORT TOWNSEND — Ferry service between Port Townsend and Coupeville was disrupted on Saturday because of high winds and rough seas, Washington State Ferries said.

Canceled were the 12:30 p.m. sailing from Port Townsend and the 1:15 p.m. sailing from Coupeville. Future sailings could be canceled because of the weather, according to the state ferry system.

The Salish Sea Early Music Festival postponed its 2 p.m. Saturday concert because of ferry cancellations.

“We cannot perform later today but will make every attempt to reschedule next week,” said Jeffrey Cohan, artistic director of the Early Music Festival, in a Saturday email.

Ferry reservation holders will not receive a no-show fee due to the service disruption, the state ferries system said, adding that alternate routes are Edmonds/Kingston and Mukilteo/Clinton.

Wind speeds were expected to subside during Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
