Field Hall celebrates grand opening

PORT ANGELES — Field Arts & Events Hall is hosting a series of opening acts this weekend.

The new facility at 219 N. Oak St., on the Port Angeles waterfront, has a colorful lineup today, Saturday and Sunday to celebrate its grand opening.

The center, estimated to have cost about $50 million, includes a 500-seat theater, a conference space, a fine art gallery and other amenities.

On Thursday, the center celebrated the opening of its gallery with its first show, “Creations by the Klallam People,” representing the partnership between Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and Field Hall.

A traditional welcoming ceremony with Lower Elwha Klallam Tribal Chairwoman Frances Charles and curator Roger Fernandes preceded a reception.

Today, the center will feature an extended performance by Grammy-winning jazz musician Diane Schuur as she kicks off her 70th birthday tour at 7:30 p.m.

Founders Circle Donors and their guests have been invited to a special pre-show cocktail hour and BANDALOOP dress rehearsal, starting at 6 p.m., with guests providing RSVPs.

Before the jazz performance today will be the ribbon cutting for the McGraw Family Foundation Room, an executive conference and meeting space, at 4 p.m. At 5 p.m. will be the ribbon cutting for the conference and events center, built for up to 300 guests.

On Saturday, the celebration jumps into high gear with a ceremonial ribbon cutting outside the new Field Hall building at 10:30 a.m.

The free Community Stage will be on the Pebble Beach lawn in front of Field Hall. It will feature local musicians and food trucks while providing a view of the performance by BANDALOOP vertical dance company. Their dances on the outside of the north wall of the building will be at noon, 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, Schuur will offer a public matinee performance inside the new Donna M. Morris Theater at Field Hall.

At 8:30 p.m. will be heard the infectious rhythms of Grammy award-winning quintet Ranky Tanky.

The free Community Stage Schedule is:
