Free cake to follow Port Townsend Rhododendron Festival parade

PORT TOWNSEND — The annual Cake Picnic will offer 2,000 slices of “artisan cake” Saturday immediately after the Grand Parade ends.

The free community picnic will be from about 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Pope Marine Park after the parade ends there.

Bakers Shannon Africa from Seashell Cakes, Ananda Coyle from Aldrich’s Market, Jessica Brooks from Sweet Lamb Bakery and Lauren Kohn are leading the production of the cake using eggs from Spring Rain Farm and Orchard and Finnriver Farm in Chimacum and flour from Nash’s Farm in Sequim.

Music will be by DJ Captain Peacock, Unexpected Brass Band and Songlines Choir. A live performance is planned by O’Meara Dance Studio.

The picnic will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Rhody royal court, followed by free cake and a community dance party.
