SEQUIM — The Out Loud Story Slam performers are lined up. The venue and the virtual connection are ready. All that is needed now: Listeners.
The story slam — a performance of true personal stories — will be available both in person and online at 7 p.m. Friday from the outdoor stage at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., where admission is free. Audience members have the option of bringing their camping chairs, picnic blankets and face masks to the event, or viewing from home via the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) Facebook page.
“We’ll be hearing from Pamela Ziemann, a local playwright, Jesse Charles, part of the Elwha tribe and a school board candidate; Darryl Wood, a local surfer who grew up in California; and Heidi Hansen of the Olympic Peninsula Authors Group,” promised Nessa Goldman, co-organizer of the Out Loud gathering.
The four tellers’ stories are intended for adult listeners, she noted — and they range from nostalgic to lighthearted.
“This event is an opportunity to connect with the local community and share in the stories that shape our lives,” Goldman said.
“Connection can be found in the most unlikely places,” she added.
Goldman and co-organizer Jeanné Sparks are collaborating with NOLS to present this slam, which wraps up the library’s “Reading Colors Your World” summer program.
Social distancing between groups and masks will be encouraged at the slam. In the event of inclement weather or public health restrictions, stories will be streamed to the NOLS Facebook page without in-person seating. Viewers can check NOLS.org for updates.
