• Gallery 9, 1012 Water St., will display the handmade jewelry of Michael S. Kenney, one of its founding members, during the art walk.
Kenney collects and cuts natural stones to reveal their colors and patterns, then creates settings to present each stone in a manner that showcases its beauty.
Kenney will display an array of hand-cut jewelry from stones that have been collected over the past 40 years. Kenney’s jewelry will be on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays throughout December.
• Sandra Smith-Poling will sign copies of her new book, “A Life of Art, Medicine and Adventure: an Illustrated Memoir,” at Gallery 9, 1012 Water St., during Saturday’s art walk.
Smith-Poling’s memoir chronicles a life in medicine, art and sailing.
Smith-Poling has sailed on the Adventuress, a 131-foot gaff-rigged schooner, as both the ship surgeon and as the ship’s artist, and she has trained as an officer aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, a 295-foot square-rigged bark often called “America’s Tall Ship.”
Her painting of the Eagle is on display in the officers’ wardroom on board the ship.
She also served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force and retired from McChord Air Force Base’s 446th Aeromedical Staging Squadron in 2009.
Smith-Poling has used art to balance her life, and her art has been influenced by her father, Craig Smith, as well as Arthur Beaumont, navy artist Sir William Russell Flint and John Singer Sargeant.

Forty artists from across the Pacific Northwest will participate in the show, and the Art Walk is a time to meet and talk with them.
Small Expressions includes a variety of media, including photography, jewelry, papier-maché, oil pastels, handwoven-fiber creations and ceramics.
Most of the artists are from Port Townsend, although there also are participants fromPort Angeles, Sequim, Seattle and Oregon. The gallery also is exhibiting Showcase 2024, which showcases works by 20 local artists.
“These two exhibitions are designed for the giving season,” said Diane Urbani, a spokesperson for Northwind Art. “When a piece is purchased, a fresh one is rotated into the show from the participating artists. So this is an especially dynamic time at the gallery.”
