Green Thumb lecture to focus on Peninsula, succulents

PORT ANGELES — WSU Clallam County Master Gardener Susan Kalmar will present advice for growing hardy succulents at noon Thursday in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

Kalmar will explain the similarities and differences between hardy and tender succulent plants and how they relate to local climate zones and microclimates.

She will also provide information about identification, popular species, care and propagation of succulents.

There will be plants to examine and time for questions to help the audience better understand how they can incorporate growing these plants in their gardens.

A Master Gardener since 2017, Kalmar holds an associate’s degree in ornamental horticulture. She has seven years of experience in greenhouse management.

Succulent plants, indoor and out, have always been a hobby bordering on a passion. Kalmar tends the hardy succulent garden at the Master Gardener’s Woodcock Demonstration Garden.

The presentation is sponsored by the Clallam County Master Gardeners.
