Hoh Days celebrations set this weekend in Forks

Fest not celebrated for more than 18 years

FORKS — The Hoh Tribe will revive this weekend a festival that hasn’t been celebrated for more than 18 years.

The tribe will host two days of free celebrations, entertainment, food, music, games and fireworks during Hoh Days starting Saturday on its reservation south of Forks on Lower Hoh Road, west of U.S. Highway 101.

The last time the tribe hosted this festival was in 1993, said organizer Derek Benally.

“It’s to bring our community together,” he said, “We like to get together” not just for elections and serious duties, “but also to have some fun.

“We hope to make this a tradition for years to come,” he said.

The celebration originally was set for three days beginning today, but the death of an elder prompted cancellation of today’s events, said Phillip Sifuentes, of the Hoh Tribe.
