Huntingford Humanities to feature Thor Hanson

CHIMACUM — The 17th annual Huntingford Humanities Lecture will be by author and scientist Thor Hanson on Thursday.

Hanson, who lives on San Juan Island, will speak at 6:30 p.m. at Chimacum High School auditorium at 91 West Valley Road.

The lecture is hosted by the Jefferson County Library.

Hanson is a Guggenheim Fellow, a Switzer Environmental Fellow, and an award-winning author and biologist.

His books include “Buzz,” “The Triumph of Seeds,”’ “The Impenetrable Forest,” “Feathers” and an illustrated children’s book, “Bartholomew Quill.”

His writing has been translated into more than 10 languages and has earned such accolades as The John Burroughs Medal, the Phi Beta Kappa Award, the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize, and two Pacific Northwest Book Awards.

He has appeared on NPR’s “Fresh Air,” PRI’s “Science Friday,” “The Current” on CBC, and “Book Lust with Nancy Pearl.”

The Huntingford Humanities Lecture was established in 2001 in memory of Sara L. Huntingford, a long-time supporter of the Jefferson County Library.
