Jean Lenke jazz-folk quartet to play Candlelight Concert series

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jean Lenke Jazz-Folk Quartet, a jazz-folk fusion artist and her band, will perform at the Candlelight Concert series this week.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St. in Port Townsend. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Masks are encouraged for in-person attendees.

The performance also will be streamed live at https://trinityumcpt.org/concerts, where patrons will find a link for the Candlelight Concerts Online and ways to donate. The concert also will be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9.

Admission is free with a suggested donation of $15 per person. Half the proceeds will go to Lenke’s chosen charity, Dove House, www.dovehousejc.org, whose mission is to empower victims of crime and abuse in Jefferson County through education, advocacy and crisis intervention.

With a smooth and soulful voice, Lenke, a Pacific Northwest jazz, folk and blues artist, paints music in full color, with broad strokes and a free hand. As bandleader, her approach to music is free spirited, crossing boundaries and mixing genres.

Whether performing with an intimate acoustic duo or trio, with her six-piece Jean Therapy West Band or with her all-women Red Rose Quintet, Lenke’s approach to classic jazz is influenced by an eclectic mix of mid-century folk, jazz-rock fusion and soulful passion for life.

Lenke will present a single set with a selection of songs that reach back to her folk roots, many of them message songs often sung once upon a time ago in church. She will be accompanied by Steve Kirk on guitar, Jim Charlier on bass and Ed Donohue on the trumpet and flugelhorn.
