Living with disability topic of Port Angeles presentation

PORT ANGELES — “If you are disabled, you are just like everyone else … just living life in a different way.”

Three days before International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Steve Ferreira will deliver this message to Peninsula College students, as well as any community members who wish to attend the college’s final Studium Generale of 2017.

The talk will take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in the Little Theater on campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

As the founder of Beyond Disabilities, Ferreira will speak about “living a disabled life,” accomplishing goals at one’s own pace and taking on leadership roles.

English instructor Kate Reavey said Ferreira comes highly recommended by students and faculty members who attended the April Students of Color Conference in Yakima.

Ferreira also will lead an “Eradicating Bullying” workshop at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with his colleague Chitalu Mumba in the House of Learning, Peninsula College’s Longhouse. The workshop is free but requires preregistration due to limited space.

To register, email Reavey at kreavey@pencol.edu.
