Pajama storytime, flights for kids and more slated on Peninsula

A book signing, free airplane flights for kids and a storytime with firefighters are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Book signing

FORKS — Bill Lindstrom will sign copies of his book “Strait Press: A History of News Media on the North Olympic Peninsula” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today.

The book signing will be held at the the Forks Timber Museum, 1421 S. Forks Ave.

Lindstrom’s book not only tells the story of the news media on the North Olympic Peninsula but also chronicles the history of the region as well.

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System will host Pajama Storytime! at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The free early literacy program will be held in the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Pajama Storytime! features singing, reading, talking, playing and writing led by the library’s teen volunteers.

The program is designed for children up to 5 years old and their adult caregivers.

Book group

PORT ANGELES — The Second Tuesday Book Discussion Group will discuss “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The monthly group meets in the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

In August, the group will discuss the novel “Do Not Say We Have Nothing” by Madeleine Thien.

Senior dance

PORT ANGELES — Cat’s Meow will perform for a swing dance from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The dance will be in the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

Refreshments will be served from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person; first-time attendees are admitted free.

The Night Sky

PORT ANGELES — The Pacific Science Center will present “The Night Sky” on Wednesday.

There will be four half-hour viewing sessions for children ages 5-8 at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and noon.

Space is limited so there will be a sign-up list at the library on Wednesday morning.

Kindergarten Rocks!

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System and First Step Family Support Center will present Kindergarten Rocks! at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The kindergarten readiness program will be held at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody Ave.

This session will begin with a reading of the book “This is Not a Box” by Antoinette Portis followed by hands-on stations to develop kindergarten readiness skills.

Future sessions will feature “Gravity” by Jason Chin, July 17; “Click, Clack, Moo” by Doreen Cronin, July 24; and “Let’s Play in the Forest” by Claudia Rueda on July 31.

PORT ANGELES — Marilyn Santiago will present “Genealogy: Picturing My Tree” from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The free presentation is part of the Artist Story series held at Imagine it Framed, 625 E. Front St.

Santiago also will be raffling off her Asian brush painting “Egret on Yellow Silk” to benefit the Clallam County Genealogical Society and Chapter IV of the Philanthropic Education Organization.

Wine and books

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System and Camaraderie Cellars Winery will present “Books & Libations” from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The free wine and book pairing will be held at the winery, 334 Benson Road.

Attendees will taste six local wines paired with six books.

This event is limited to readers ages 21 and older.

Young Eagles

SEQUIM — The Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles program will provide free airplane rides to youths from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The rides will take off from and land at the Sequim Valley Airport, 468 Dorothy Hunt Lane.

Riders must be between 7 and 17 years old, have written permission from a parent or guardian and be accompanied by an adult.

Thrift shop open

SEQUIM — The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild will open its thrift shop from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

This week, the shop features a large cargo vehicle pet barrier, a 96-piece set of Wedgewood china and a large dining room table with six chairs. White-tagged items are half price.

COYLE — The psychedelic folk duo Little Spirits will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson County Library will sponsor Books on Tap Trivia from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The trivia contest will be at Finn River Farm and Cidery, 124 Center Road.

Participants can bring a team or join one at the cidery.

PORT HADLOCK — Lys Burden and Nita Wester will present “Winter Vegetable Gardening” from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.Wednesday.

Burden and Wester are master gardeners with Washington State University’s Jefferson County Extension.

The pair will review which vegetables grow most successfully in this area as well as schedules for planting and harvesting and winter gardening techniques.

Drawing workshop

PORT HADLOCK — Jesse Joshua Watson will present “Worlds of Wonder and Cool Looking Heroes” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
