SEQUIM — Members of Peninsula Driftwood Artists will display their work at their 50th annual show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The show will be at Pioneer Memorial Park at 387 E. Washington St., Sequim. Admission is free.

“We’re the oldest group in the area,” said Kris Young, president of the group.

At least a dozen members will exhibit their work, she said.

Demonstrations are planned all day to show how driftwood art is created using the LuRon Method, Young said.

To celebrate the group’s 50th anniversary, numerous businesses in Port Angeles and Sequim have donated goods and services for a raffle, Young said.

Among the prizes are two tickets for a whale-watching tour out of Port Angeles with Island Adventures, tickets for walk-on passengers for the Coho ferry and many restaurant gift certificates.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

Unfinished driftwood will be for sale as well as starter kits for those interested in picking up the skill and information for those interested in joining the group.

None of the finished pieces will be for sale, Young said.

Peninsula Driftwood Artists was founded in 1969 by Elizabeth Swanson, who trained with Lucile Worlund in the LuRon Method, according to the group’s website at www.peninsuladrift woodartists.org/index.html.

Peninsula Driftwood Artists meet at 1 p.m. on the first Monday of each month, at the Sunland Homeowner’s Association Building at 135 Fairway Drive, second floor, in Sequim. The public is invited.
