Photograph how-to set for Rock & Gem Show

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association annual Rock, Gem & Jewelry Show is adding another dimension to its show this weekend — photographing micro-minerals.

The free show is slated from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

For those photography hounds interested in capturing images of some of the smallest of Mother Nature’s creations, Bruce Kelley will have a presentation at 1 p.m. Saturday on the collecting and photographing of micro-minerals.

In “The World of Micro-Minerals,” he will show how to photograph mineral specimens using a stacking demonstration with a grand finale “wow” slide show and accompanying stories regarding the specimens.

Kelley is a retired software engineer, a classical musician with the Port Angeles Symphony and a member of the Pacific Northwest Friends of Mineralogy.

Knowledgeable rock vendors, as usual at this show, will offer large world-wide collections of rocks, slabs, minerals, crystals, polished cabochons and other items.

Free rocks will be given to all children (young and old). Rock Alley has been expanded to include more games and more chances to win that special prize.

Clallam County Gem & Mineral Club members will prepare display boxes exhibiting specimen rocks, jewelry and other things lapidary.

Members of the Port Angeles unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula will again provide food for show attendees.
