PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Art League will host a reception for Barbara Grondal from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The reception will begin in the lobby of Sound Community Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road, then move to the league’s adjacent gallery at 5 p.m.
Grondal utilizes acrylics and pastels in sweeping brush strokes that overlap to create depth and dimension to make her subjects seem alive. She uses rolling bends and curves in her paintings to create the illusion of motion.
The forest, mountains and water provide endless subjects for Grondal’s paintings, whether it’s the sunlight filtering through moss-covered cedars or the cascading tendrils of a sea nettle jellyfish.
Mara Mauch is the Port Ludlow Art League’s jeweler of the month.
Mauch uses a kiln to fuse multiple layers of glass to create the cabochons she uses to create necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
Mauch applies metallic coatings to the fired pieces, shapes the pieces by hand and then re-fires them, repeating the process until she obtains the ideal result.
“Every time I open the kiln after a firing, it’s like opening a present on Christmas morning,” Mauch said. “It never gets boring.”
Grondal’s paintings and Mauch’s jewelry will be on display in the gallery from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays throughout September.
