PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Summer Band began its 32nd season with a free Memorial Day concert Monday at the American Legion’s Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26.
The season includes monthly outdoor concerts at Pope Marine Plaza on June 23 and Aug. 25 and at Chetzemoka Park on July 28.
“We have some fun themes planned for this season of concerts,” said Marge Rosen, the band’s conductor.
The June concert is “Wild West,” while “Wings in Motion” in July will feature a dance performance by Mary Lou Sanelli and guests. August’s concert is “On Broadway.”
The band is also planning a special Independence Day concert with the Community Chorus of Port Townsend and East Jefferson County on July 4 at Pope Marine Plaza.
The public is invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a variety of arrangements at the free performances.
Each performance will last about an hour and will include seven or eight selections.
The 40-piece, all-volunteer band features woodwinds, brass and percussion played by musicians with a wide range of ages and experience.
The band takes pride in welcoming any performers who can read music at a high school level or above.
