The first of the season’s concerts by the Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra, an Oyster Feed in Forks and a “Feasting for Felines” dinner in Port Angeles are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Balfolk dance

PORT TOWNSEND — A Balfolk International Dance will be held from 7 to 10 tonight.

The dance featuring partner and circle steps from Europe will be held at Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona Ave.

Admission is $5 to $20 on a sliding scale.

Geology lecture

PORT TOWNSEND — Pat Pringle will present “Buried and Submerged Forests of the PNW” at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The lecture will be presented at the First Baptist Church of Port Townsend, 1202 Lawrence St.

Pringle will discuss the study of buried and submerged forests in the Pacific Northwest and the geologic events that buried them.

The lecture is free, but a $5 donation to defray expenses is appreciated.

Poetry reading

PORT TOWNSEND — A poetry reading will celebrate Tom Jay’s new book “The Blossoms are Ghosts at the Wedding: Expanded Edition” at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The reading will be at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St.

The reading is sponsored by the Jefferson County Historical Society and is presented by Jennifer Westdal and Michael Daley.

The book is an expanded reissue of his 2007 book, “The Blossoms are Ghosts at the Wedding.”

Suggested donation is $5 to $10.

Film screening

PORT TOWNSEND — The National Alliance for Mental Illness JeffCo will present a free screening of “The Public” at noon Sunday.

The film will be shown at the Rose Theatre, 235 Tyler St.

In the 2018 drama, an act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati take over the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold.

A question-and-answer session is planned after the PG-13 rated film.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.; admission is first come, first seated.

Reiss, a member of the Nor’wester Rotary Club of Port Angeles, will address a meeting of the Rotary Club of East Jefferson County at the Old Alcohol Plant, 310 Hadlock Bay Road.

The East Jefferson Rotarians have joined with six other Olympic Peninsula Rotary clubs to sponsor a Rotary International grant to help provide sanitary facilities for families in the African country of Togo to help lower the incidence of disease in that country.

An optional, cafeteria-style lunch will be available for $15.

GARDINER — The Owl-oween benefit for Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
