Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra to conduct April concert

CHIMACUM — The Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra will perform its April concert at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The free concert will be in the auditorium at Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road.

The public is also welcome to attend the dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. Friday.

This concert will present music from several movies and musicals, an opera overture and a violin solo by Zia Magill, the symphony’s 2023 Young Artist winner.

Magill will play the solo during the performance of the first movement from Mozart’s Violin Concerto #5 in A major.

The concerto begins with the orchestra playing the main theme, then the solo violin enters for the adagio, which means “slowly” in Italian. Finally, the violin leads the orchestra back to the theme and into the rest of the movement.

The program also includes the overture to “La Forza de Destino” by Giuseppe Verdi, music from “Pirates of the Caribbean” by Klaus Badelt, music from “Gladiator” by Hans Zimmer, Lin Manuel Miranda’s “Suite from Hamilton” and a medley “007 Through the Years.”

The 007 medley includes music written for the long-running James Bond movie franchise by Leslie Bricusse, Anthony Newley, Carol Baker Sayer, Marvin Hamlisch and Paul and Linda McCartney.
