Rhody Fest events planned next week

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Rhododendron Festival has several events scheduled leading up to next weekend.

Here is a schedule for next week:

• Monday — Royalty Ribbon Cutting, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fort Worden.

• Wednesday — Trike Races, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pope Marine Park.

• Thursday — Pet Parade, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Harrison Street to Taylor Street.

• Friday, May 18 — Kiddies Parade, 3:30 p.m. from Adams Street to Madison Street; Hair and Beard Contest, 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Water Street near American Legion Hall; Bed Races, 6:30 p.m., assembly near American Legion Hall.

• Saturday, May 19 — Jim Caldwell Memorial Classic Rhody Festival Golf Tournament, 8 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday at Port Townsend Golf Club, 1948 Blaine St.; Elks pancake breakfast, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Port Townsend Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.; Running of the Balls, noon on Monroe Street; Grand Parade, 1 p.m.; Cake Picnic, after parade at Pope Marine Park; Rhody Run packet pickup and registration, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fort Worden Commons; Elks Rhody Dinner Spaghetti Feed, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Sunday, May 20 — Rhody Fundraiser Pancake breakfast, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Elks Lodge; Kids Sprint, 9:30 a.m. at Fort Worden; 12K Rhody Run, 11 a.m. at Fort Worden; 6K Rhody Run, 11:30 a.m. at Fort Worden.

The carnival begins on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
