Second Saturday Art Walk features variety

PORT ANGELES — Mixed-media artwork, pottery and fiber arts will be on display during the Second Saturday Art Walk.

Studio Bob will display an exhibit sponsored by Cabled Yarn & Fiber beginning Saturday and continuing through Oct. 1.

The non-juried exhibit at the gallery, 118½ E. Front St., is an extension of the North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival, held annually in Sequim beginning in October.

The exhibit at Studio Bob’s gallery will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, when artists will be giving live demonstrations.

“We define fiber art very loosely,” said MarySue French, one of the organizers of the event. “In previous years, we had a wide mix of artwork including spinning, felting, weaving, quilting, painted silk, knitting, crochet, costumes, fiber paintings, fiber sculptures, needle punched, braided and woven rugs, hats, jewelry and some driftwood art.”

Harbor Art Gallery, at 114 N. Laurel St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and visitors can meet with Jodi Riverstone, the featured artist for September, and others who exhibit at the cooperative.

Through the use of acrylics, Riverstone uses acrylics and mixed media to convey her interpretations of regional scenics.

Some of her works evoke the feeling tone of the poetry and prose she has written that is sometimes seen within the image.

“I’ve been recently drawn to creating poetry or prose when contemplating a subject and it’s been fun to see how the written work then also informs the visual art that comes out of that process,” Riverstone said.

During its usual hours, the gallery is open until 4 p.m.

It also showcases work by local artists Bob Stokes and Cindy Elstrom, Carolyn Guske, Robert Amaral, Kelly Coffey, Garret Delabarre, Terri Ench, Tammy Hall, David Johannessohn, Susan Kantowitz, Ruth Kaspin, Nancy McFaul, Gail McLain, Roger Mosley, Eric Neurath, Randy and Sallie Radock, Nathan Shields, Lance and Haley Snider, Eileen Webb and Kevin Willson.

The One of a Kind Art Gallery, at 115 E. Railroad Ave., will host an evening with Brian and Wendy Fuller, founders of Fairview Lake Studios, during the Second Saturday Art Walk from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The functional art pottery created by the twosome is featured this month at the gallery.

They named their pottery business, formed in 2017, for their first small home studio they started while living on Fairview Lake in Port Orchard.

Since the couple began, they have traveled around the region, attending art festivals and fairs.

Their son and his partner have recently joined the family business as apprentices, allowing them to further expand.

All of their pieces are entirely handcrafted, one-of-a-kind and contain unique variations of patterns and colors.

Items are made using stoneware clay and glazes that are lead free and food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
