Sequim art walk, holiday stroll set for Friday

Theme for December is the color gold

SEQUIM — Many of the First Friday Art Walk Sequim venues are part of the Sequim Holiday Stroll and Sale.

The art walk will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The holiday stroll will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A photo-op with Santa and Mrs. Claus and free candy canes will be offered at Forage Gifts & Northwest Treasures at 121 W. Washington St., and “Night Before Christmas” books signed by Santa will be at Dungeness Kids Co. at 163 W. Washington St.

Visitors can play “Elk on the Shelf” throughout town and visit Santa’s reindeer at Coastal Farm & Ranch, 990 E. Washington St. Building A, Suite 101.

Rainshadow Cafe at 157 W. Cedar St. will participate in the Holiday Stroll with free mini hot chocolate sippers and live music with “Bread and Gravy” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The City of Sequim and the City Arts Advisory Commission invite the public to the Sequim Civic Center for the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and Reception and “Tie One On” exhibit at 152 W. Cedar St.

The artists represented are Lora Armstrong, Nancy Booth, Jane Burkey, Jeannine Chappell, Patrick Clark, Sharon DelaBarre, Leslie Dickson, Penny Dorothy, Marilynn Evans, Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry, Cindy Fullwiler, Fumie Gage, Anne Grasteit, Eva Kozun, Ernie Kozun, Allyne Lawson, Melissa Mann, Bob Martinson, Debra Olson, Priscilla Patterson, Marcedes Perry-Baar, Susan Schneider, Gloria Skovronsky, Ryoko Toyama and Sandy Wolf.

First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a free self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim on the first Friday of every month, sponsored and produced by Renne Emiko Brock.

Each month has a color theme and visitors are encouraged to dress in shades of the color.

The theme for December is the color gold.

“Gold is the color of our star Sol as we celebrate the winter solstice and the return of the sun during December,” Brock said in a press release.

”The impressive, shiny color of gold represents radiant friendships, admiration, prosperity, superb festivities, rekindled optimism, kindhearted deeds and lifelong fellowships.”

Other venues and their offerings during First Friday are:

That Takes The Cake, 171 W Washington St. will host the Sequim Creatives and Educators Book Signing with Brock, Mary Beth Beuke, Kelly Griffith, Marina Shipova and Lara E. Starcevich from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Books available will be “The Ultimate Guide to Sea Glass: Beach Comber’s Edition: Finding, Collecting, Identifying, and Using the Ocean’s Most Beautiful Stones” by Beuke; “Action-packed superheroes: your guide to revealing and utilizing your superpowers” by Brock; “After Words: Cultivating peace, purpose and beauty in the aftermath of tragedy” by Griffith; Fine Art Photography,” “The Art of Steampunk – Every Picture Tells a Story,” and “The Art of Fantasy – Whimsical Fairytale Illustrations” by Shipova; and “The Lost (and unfortunately found) Erotic Memoirs of Flora Ludmilla: by Flora Ludmilla” by Starcevich.

• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will host visual artist and designer Makayla DeScala through February.

A Pacific Northwest native, DeScala “gains inspiration from the diverse and rugged landscape around her, drawing parallels between events in nature, like storms and seasons, with the human experience,” Brock said. Her newest collection of paintings focuses on environmental cloudscapes.

• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will display an exhibit by member artists inspired by John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Co-curators are Lynne Armstrong and Mary Franchini. Visitors can meet the artists.

• Design2Scan3D and Dungeness Chestnuts will be at the Spruce Building, 207 W. Spruce St.

Design2Scan3D will host a holiday bazaar in the studio featuring stoneware gift items under $10.

Dungeness Chestnuts will offer both roasted and fresh chestnuts for sale as well as Chestnut Crunch Caramel Cor.

• Harbor Audiology and Hearing Center, 538 N. Fifth Ave., will host members of NOW (North Olympic Watercolorists).

Original art, small prints, miniatures, greeting cards and Christmas ornaments will be available.

• Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will welcome musicians Cheryl Bell, vocalist, and Jason Paul, vocalist and guitarist, at 5:30 p.m.

First Friday at OTA is always free to the public. The snack and beverage bar will be open.

• Sequim Museum & Arts, 175 W. Cedar St., is the venue for a fiber art exhibition by Jan Tatom and also will feature four Sequim authors signing copies of their books.

The local authors are photographer Ross Hamilton, Katherine Vollenweider, Barbara Paschal and Teresa Schoeffel-Lingvall.
