Silver Lake 66 to perform country music in Coyle

COYLE — Maria Francis and Jeff Overbo of Silver Lake 66 will perform “the genuine sound of classic country” at Concerts in the Woods at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, said series organizer Norm Johnson.

“Silver Lake 66 is the real thing,” Johnson said. “Jeff’s twangy guitar and Maria’s pleading vocals bring the imagery in their lyrics to life.

“Plus they are going to be sharing songs from their newest album, ‘Ragged Heart.’ ”

Admission will be by donation.

Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

Portland band

Francis and Overbo, now hailing from Portland, Ore., began playing music together in the Midwest.

They met in Minneapolis and, after years of recording and performing locally, hit the road for Southern California with their Ford van, their guitars and their dog, Bernie.

For nearly a decade through the 1990s, the two fronted a band called The Ruby Trees, playing in Los Angeles clubs.

Silver Lake 66 was born in Portland.

The duo contributed to jam sessions and other performances at a honky-tonk at the edge of the city called The Barn.

In August 2016, the duo released “Let Go Or Be Dragged,” which features a collection of songs drawn from their personal experiences.

The album hit No. 19 on the Roots Music Report’s album chart, and the song “San Francisco Angel” reached 18 on its singles chart.

New album

With the addition of strings and horns, “Ragged Heart” builds off their previous works and centers around a message of resiliency and hope. “Ragged Heart” was released April 5 of this year.
