Steelhead focus of Evening Talks at ONRC in Forks

FORKS — The Olympic Natural Resources Center will host the opening lectures in its 2019 Steelhead Review during the Evening Talks series at 7 tonight.

Author Trey Combs and John Aho, a retired park ranger, will present the program in the Hemlock Forest Room at the Olympic Natural Resources Center (ONRC), 1455 S. Forks Ave.

Refreshments will be served and a potluck of dessert is encouraged.

Combs, who is also a steelhead fly fisherman in addition to writing, will speak about the “Origins of Wild Steelhead” and their destiny.

Aho, also a research program leader, educator and mediator, will present his views on ecosystem management and the Elwha Restoration project at its beginning, pointing to factors expected to influence the survival of wild steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula.

Evening Talks at ONRC is funded through the Rosmond Forestry Education Fund, an endowment that honors the contributions of Fred Rosmond and his family to forestry and the Forks community.

On April 18, the ONRC will host John McMillan, Olympic Peninsula researcher on life history of wild steelhead and many other scientific achievements, and his father, Bill McMillan, noted author, citizen scientist and advocate.
