Tribute to Pete Seeger sounds out tonight at Port Townsend Library

PORT TOWNSEND — Musical duo Hank and Claire will perform a tribute to folk singer Pete Seeger with stories, historic photographs and singalong songs related to Seeger’s life.

The duo will perform from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. today at the Port Townsend Library, 1220 Lawrence St.

Seeger (1919-2014) took a leading role on issues of labor, war, civil rights and the environment. Hank and Claire will illustrate each phase of Seeger’s activism with songs he wrote or popularized.

They will also give context to such songs as “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” and “Turn, Turn, Turn.”

Hank Payne and Claire Favro, a folksinging duo, perform most genres of music as long as the songs tug on their heartstrings or tickle their funny bones. Each has been playing live acoustic music since the coffeehouse days of the 1960s.
