Young Irelanders to perform traditional music, dance on Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The Young Irelanders will perform traditional Irish music and dance at the Performing Arts Center at Port Angeles High School on Saturday.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in the center at the school at 304 E. Park Ave.

Tickets are $15 to $35 for adults, $10 for those 14 and younger. Ticket outlets are online at www.jffa.org and at Port Book and News in Port Angeles and Joyful Noise Music in Sequim.

Although still in their 20s and 30s, the Young Irelanders are renowned among their peers in Ireland, said Dan Maguire, executive director of the Juan de Fuca Foundation, which sponsors the concert.

Members of the Young Irelanders have won 16 Irish National and world titles, Maguire said.

“Colin Farrell [fiddle/whistle] and Damien Mullane [accordion/melodeon], particularly, have become among the most revered Irish traditional musicians in the world.

“The dancers, too, are among the best in the world,” Maguire said.

“Siobhan Manson is one of the most celebrated Irish dancers on the globe and one of the longest-serving principal dancers with Riverdance.”

The Young Irelanders have performed across six continents and for many heads of state, including presidents of Ireland and the United States, Maguire said.

Members have also performed at the Beijing Opera House, Sydney Opera House, the Kremlin State Palace in Moscow, the U.S. Capitol Building and the Kennedy and Lincoln centers, he added.
