LETTER: American nationalism recalls Germany of 1930s

The thought-provoking “Matter of principle” letter (PDN, Nov. 20) righteously brings recrimination to those who champion liberal ideology.

We long for the time when we had nationalistic pride that helped free us from the Great Depression.

Then as now, we found a great leader to give us hope for a better future to make our country great again.

We supported government, our police and military with a fervor never before seen in our great republic.

Ascribing to the principles upon which our country was founded meant we were true citizens.

Those who did not were not.

With the United States in the Berlin Olympics of 1936, we were proud of our team spirit carrying the torch of nationalism.

As our flag was being raised, we all stood at attention with arms outstretched in salute and sang our national anthem:

“Deutschland, Deutschland, über alles!”
