LETTER: Clallam should reconsider use of term ‘chain gang’

Thanks for the very informative article on the Clallam County Chain Gang (“Chain Gang volunteers clean up while getting outdoors,” PDN, March 18).

I’ve often wondered about Clallam County’s use of the archaic word and if they really were a “chain gang.”

I’m glad to see they are not and think it would behoove the county to reconsider calling it that.

It is good that inmates have an opportunity to work outside.

And I am sure they will be inspired to help keep the environment clean when they are released.

It is pathetic that there is that much trash for them to pick up, but we should all be grateful that they do.

It is unfortunate that U.S. citizens can’t be more proud of their surroundings and the nature they spoil.

I’m always glad to visit Canada and its pristine environment.
