We should not forget that after their fish net pen failed in the San Juans, the owner [Cooke Aquaculture] tried to blame the eclipse (“Atlantic Salmon Escape From Cypress Island Net,” PDN, Aug. 23).
State and local governments should take this into account in future dealings with this outfit.
If Cooke Aquaculture actually knew that this was absurd, it shows it is perfectly willing to make up a story to deflect blame for its mismanagement.
If it actually believed the story, that’s perhaps worse because it calls into question their collective IQ.
Before this company is issued any permits or any hearings are held, shouldn’t it be required to demonstrate that it has both integrity and competence?
This incident demonstrates it has neither.
